Five - Star   Dive - Bar

The State Theater building dates back to its initial construction in 1895 housing miscellaneous businesses supporting Elkhart's booming manufacturing economy in the early 1900's. It opened as the State Theater with a grand opening in August 1940. From 1940 until 1987 the State Theater was an entertainment hub showing the newest John Wayne films as well as hosting dance parties on its lower level. After closing, the building was used as a church and later was the home to Elkhart's Faith Mission shelter. In 2008 the building became home to a bar/restaurant named the Mad Anthony Brewing Company and was later Krav night club and Cubby bear Pizza. Five Star Dive Bar which was already operating in the nearby Easy Shopping place purchased the recently upgraded building in 2017 and began operations there in January of 2018. Five Star Dive Bar was operated by the Curtis Family until 12;/31/2024. The building is now awaiting new owners to put their touch on this piece of Elkhart History.
